Sippin’ Santa’s Surf Shack at Lost Lake
Egg nog isn’t the only thing worth sipping this season, as Lost Lake brings back its beloved Sippin’ Santa’s Surf Shack for the second year in a row. Through the rest of the month, the tiki bar is decked out like the North Pole, featuring festive decor and cocktails to match. This means tons of tinsel, twinkling lights, snowflakes and more, plus cocktail specials like “…and a Parrot in a Palm Tree,” made with tequila, mezcal, curacao, coconut syrup and lime; and “On Christmas Island,” which has three kinds of rum, ginger, passion fruit, lemon and Don’s Spices #2. But that’s not all! The Lost Lake gift shop is outfitted with plenty of limited-time holiday goodies, like Santa-inspired glassware, signed bottles of Plantation OFTD, Lost Lake multi-island plantation rum and Paul McGee private barrel A.D. Rattray Caroni 18-year, plus T-shirts an various tropical mugs. For those looking to get a little altruistic this season, Lost Lake’s Christmas tree is available for guests to make a donation to the Chicago Period Project.
It’s a Wonderful Fox Bar
Another bar in Chicago is getting into the merry spirit in its own way, as Soho House’s Fox Bar once again channels the heart and soul of Bedford Falls for “It’s a Wonderful Fox Bar.” For the third year, the cozy, boozy nook is decorated with tinsel, string lights and faux snow, with drink specials like eggnog with brown butter-washed bourbon and port. The bar also has its own Ye Olde Bar Shoppe for stocking stuffers and little gifts. To make the most of the season, Fox Bar has extended its holiday hours, opening at 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through December.
Prime Rib and Roasted Duck at River Roast
There’s just something so apropos about prime rib and roast duck this time of year. In other words, there’s just something so perfect about visiting River Roast during the month of December. Especially considering the River North restaurant has added a classic Sunday supper to its roster, every week from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., featuring prime rib carved table side with traditional sides. It’s available in portions of 16-ounces or 24-ounces and a great feast for the whole family. Additionally, the restaurant is also offering a special roast this month, serving whole duck two ways. Available every day of the week, the dish consists of roasted duck breast and confit legs with braised cabbage and green peppercorn sauce.
Weekend Cocktail Hours at Up & Up
In other holiday drinking news, it’s Up & Up to the rescue with new weekend hours and alluring cocktails to match. The cocktail bar perched atop The Robey Chicago hotel is now pouring drinks starting at 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, making it the perfect cozy hideaway on a chilly winter afternoon. The new winter cocktail menu includes heartwarming sips like Grandma Charlotte’s Secret Recipe, which has graham cracker-infused Evan Williams, pumpkin syrup and a toasted marshmallow; Really Tied the Room Together, made with vodka, NOLA coffee, clarified milk, creme de cacao, Averna and bitters; and Good Emotions, with St. George Terroir, suze, rosemary, lemon, Mallorca melon-infused Dolin Blanc and egg white.
